2022 Camp Format

Choose any combo of Monday/Tuesday, Wednesday/Thursday, or all 4 days for each two week session or all summer long. Drop in Fridays available.

COVID-19 Guidelines

We are aligned with all current policies of Boulder County Health Department guidelines and mandates for camps in regards to COVID. You can find out more here. Masks are recommended indoors and while shuttling.

Transportation

Shuttle service available from Boulder, please add on at registration if interested. Shuttle not offered on Fridays.

Please drop-off and pick-up your camper at Wild Bear Nature Center. Drop-off is between 8am-9am, and pick-up is between 3:30pm and 4:00pm. Shuttle drop-off and pick-up information at bottom of page.

$75/day. Generous scholarships and multiple children discounts available. Wild Bear is a CCCAP (state child care assistance) provider.

Programs will continue to run in the case of inclement weather! Wild Bear Nature Center provides large spaces with dedicated bathrooms to hold programs indoors when needed. Masks are recommended when inside, each age group has their own space for indoor activities. Crafts, stories, games and science will all be integrated into indoor activities when weather does not permit outdoor activity.

Hiking Club ~ Every Monday! We’ll hike the trails, discover our unique ecosystem and the tools we need to navigate it.  Join us to explore the magnificent Rocky Mountains.  Discover local flora, fauna and views of the high peaks of the Rocky Mountains.  Sign up for one or more days!

Fly Fishing Camp ~ Every Tuesday, cast your line, practice the strategies for ecologically sound fly fishing. Learn from the experts to understand the natives and non-natives and what they are feeding on, and try to replicate invertebrates in the form of fly tying.  Fly fishing equipment and professional guide included.

Peak Artists~ Every Wednesday, Connect with Nature and your inner creativity as we explore beautiful local lakes through the lens of the artist! Paint, sculpt, sing, dance, build, shoot photos and more. Learn from experienced artists in the outdoors and hone your craft!

Wild Adventures~ Every Thursday What better way to explore the great outdoors than to learn important tricks to surviving in the wilderness! We will explore how plants, other animals, indigenous peoples and all humans have adapted to survive in the wild throughout history to modern day techniques.

Forest Fridays
Join Wild Bear for fun in the forest every Friday for ten weeks during the summer! This program will take 5-8 year olds out into local trails to explore the wildlife, sunshine, and more. Children will connect to nature through fun crafts, games, and hikes. Make lasting friendships and spend the summer in the fresh air of the Rockies.
Our Forest Friday instructor is Debora Martin aka Sleeper Bear who has taught for Wild Bear for years and has over 25 years of experience leading groups of kids in the outdoors and creative endeavours.

Bear Cubs: Ages 3-5 with a Grown up!

Every Wednesday, 10:30am-12:00pm

$20 per child and grown up pair (Must represent only one household per registration). Extra child/adults +$5 per person.

Bear Cubs is a grown/child workshop held at Mud Lake Open Space from 10:30-noon on Wednesdays.  Meet at the Mud Lake parking lot and hike with us to the lake! Venture on trails, sing with us and discover the many plants and animals who live in and around Mud Lake.  Pre-registration is required.

Teen Naturalist Team

Every Tuesday June 7th-August 9th 9AM-4PM

The Teen Naturalist Team is open to teens ages 13 to 18  interested in environmental sciences, ecology, and nature. The club will meet once a week for an activity focused on nature, art, environmental stewardship and policy, professional development, or other related topics. Team members will also have the opportunity to explore topics that interest them through working on an individual project that may include research and/or volunteer work.

Tuesday weekly team days with a qualified and fun nature educator will include:
-Nature hikes
-Citizen science activities like butterfly and bird counts
-Visiting and helping other nature based institutions/organizations
-Science experiments and research
-Volunteering with natural area cleanups and maintenance, community garden plots, or on interim nature center projects etc.

Individual projects are self directed, club members choose a topic and goals with mentorship from Wild Bear leadership staff.

Team members will explore their topic and give a presentation, report, or lead an activity at the end of the summer based on what they’ve learned. Upon completion of their project, the team member will receive a certificate.

Examples:
-Survey plants on the Wild Bear property and create a plant checklist/guide.
-Assist with education programs, nature center exhibits, and nature center animal care.
-Participate in local research and stewardship projects.
-Volunteer with Wild Bear staff during outreach events, i.e. Nature Walks, Farmer’s Markets and more.

By the end of the summer:
-Complete an exciting journey to explore the impacts you made and will continue to make for the planet and -our community.
-You will have expanded  your friendships and community service, professional skills, resume, and gained a deeper understanding of how we can help the earth.
-You will receive a reference and certificate of completion from Wild Bear staff, providing you with an excellent resume builder.

MORNING DROP-OFF

Please drop your child off at the parking lot next to 200 Pearl St, Boulder, CO 80302 at 8:00 AM.

AFTERNOON PICK-UP

Please pick up your child at the Canyon Blvd & 6th St Bus Stop (northwest corner of Evert Pierson Kids’ Fishing Pond parking lot) at 4:00 PM.
