Cal Nez

Cal is Táchii’nii born for Ta’neeszahnii. He’s originally from Tocito, NM. He considers to be an artist first and holds the function and gift of being an artist in the world as a sacred obligation.  “I am honored to be accepted by the Earth Connected Art show, the concept of the show moves my spirit. I believe is spiritual and deeply conceptual. Since I arrived in Colorado I’ve been studying Colorado environment as well as the world-at-large. Being full blood Navajo, I have deeply rooted compassion to uphold the Native people’s traditional existence, so I came across this quote by a chief who dwelled around the Boulder, Nederland and Estes Park area in the 1800s. The following quote moved by soul, Chief Niwot said, ‘People seeing the beauty of this valley will want to stay, and their staying will be the undoing of the beauty.’ I wish to include Chief Niwot’s ideology in this show. He believes he must act on behalf of clients to ensure to art being created on their behalf speaks for the language to the world. Cal has been painting for over 40 years in oil, acrylics for personal and commercial clients. He will guide us to create are onto canvas. He will share his knowledge of being an artist and his love of the Diné culture.
