Summer 2008

Junior Rangers Workshops
for 6-7 year olds

The Junior Rangers Workshops provide opportunities for six and seven year olds to become Botanists, Entomologists and Trekkers. These Rangers will cultivate the Biodome at Nederland Elementary School, a dome-shaped self-sustaining greenhouse, where they will study the pollination, germination and harvesting processes.

Two days per week (M/W, T/Th) $110

Friday All Ages Workshops, $55

Hours: 8am-3:30pm

After Care Program
Cost: $20/day drop in rate and $15/day with a set summer schedule.
Families with a commitment of 2 days per week for the entire summer receive 1/2 price After care and 3 days per week or more for the entire summer receive
FREE aftercare!

Shuttle service: $7/day/child pick up 8:15, drop off 4pm

Green Thumbs
Come on down to the community garden, where we will experience the miracle of sprouting seeds! Learn the secrets of germination, pollination and what plants need to thrive. Plant your own mini-garden to take home!

Painting in the Wild
Use watercolors and other media to create colorful paintings of our natural outdoor gardens. Take home your own portfolio of painted expressions.

Swirls, Curls, Spirals and Symmetry

Look closely at the natural world, in the Biodome and in the wild... Spider webs, bee hives, leaf veins and clouds. Create artistic expressions of these patterns, designs and shapes.

Native Pottery
Come get your hands dirty! Work with the earth's clay while connecting to native cultures. Hear stories about the native people who lived in these mountains for centuries, and take home your creations.

Aerodynamic Adventures
Look to the sky-what do you see? An abundance of flying creatures! Study their aerodynamic adaptations and create your own model flight craft to take home.

Raptor Rapture
Join us as we get to know the magnificent birds of prey. Meet a rehabilitated raptor up close, and discover what makes these birds unique. Then take your skills outdoors to practice spotting and identifying these awesome animals!

Howls and Growls
Follow the tracks and traces of our local wildlife as you learn to read the habits of the animal world! Search for predators and prey, learn how animals protect themselves, and create a field guide of your own.

Nature’s Architects
How do animals live outside and survive? Explore the architectural world of wildlife while investigating dens, nests and caves. Create your own diorama of an animal home.

Rock Heads
Join us on a Rocky Mountain rock hunt! Discover the common gems under your feet. Begin your own rock collection and identification guide to take home.

Fossibilities
Calling all paleontologists, dinosaurs and woolly mammoths! Discover the past, understand the amazing animals that no longer exist, and get to know the ones that have survived for millions of years.

Water Creatures
Use watercolors and other media to create colorful paintings in the Biodome garden and in the wild gardens along the trail. Create your own journal of painted expressions. M/W July 14 & 16

Catch and Release

Do you love to take nature home with you? Discover the spiders, millipedes, centipedes and roly-poly bugs in our big backyard! Look at them closely, and then very carefully let them go.

Insectomania
Become an entomologist and discover the wild insect world. Set traps, sweep your net through the grass, and look under rocks! Create your own insect guide to take home.
M/W July 21 & 23

Wild Green Safari
Become a Junior Botanist and discover the wild plants on the trails. Get to know the wildflowers, meet their pollinators, and create your own field guide to take home.

Earth Sculptures
Become one with Mother Earth and add to her patterns. Using only materials from nature, create temporary sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. Photograph your creations and treasure them forever!

Eco-Paper Making
How does a tree become a sheet of paper? Discover this process, and learn how to conserve trees by making your own recycled paper. Create a beautiful recycled-paper journal to take home.

Earth Theatre
Calling all actors! Discover the powerful tool of performance through games, music, and costume creation. Use your new skills to put on a play that demonstrates your relationship with nature. Invite your family and friends to be your audience on Wednesday afternoon!

Puppetry in the Woods
Create an enchanted forest where all creatures share in the magic of the outdoors. Join us as we make our own puppets to tell a story about our incredible home, the Earth. Invite your family and friends be your audience on Thursday afternoon-and don't forget to bring your imagination!
