The 2007 Summer Adult and Family Workshop Series

JUNE

Nature Sketching 101: Fun with our Feathered Friends BIRDS!
Presented by Susie Mottashed, author of the award-winning book, Who Lives In Your Backyard?
Birds are everywhere! Learn how to easily create quick field sketches of our feathered friends through this fun and informative class. Bird anatomy, sketching techniques, and nature journaling techniques will be explored. Get ready to do a lot of sketching and have fun! The class is designed for beginners, but all are welcome. No prior sketching experience is necessary. Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
Date: Saturday, June 2nd, 9am-12pm
Location: Mud Lake Open Space, just north of Nederland
Cost:$15 p/p (pre-registration required)
Ages: 12- adult
Materials: Bring an 8.5x11 sketchbook, pens & pencils, binoculars, and bird field guide if you have them. Extra binoculars and field guides will be provided.

Introduction to Biodiesel
Presented by Steve Sherman (Sherman Consulting) and Mike Kalil (Boulder Biodiesel)
Join alternative energy experts Steve Sherman and Mike ___ for an introduction to all aspects of biodiesel. Topics include a general overview of biofuels, differences between diesel and gasoline engines, the history of biodiesel, the process by which it is made, and the evolution of home-brewed biodiesel. Get an up-close look at a biodiesel processor and make a sample of biodiesel from used vegetable oil.

Play-Ground Theatre: Summer Solstice Creative Dramatics
Presented by Mia Sole and Jeff Haycock of Play-Ground Theatre
Join us for Act 1 of a creative dramatics workshop celebrating the Summer Solstice including theatre, games, improvisation, live music, singing, dancing, and high energy fun!

Hiking with Bigfoot
Presented by Dave "Bigfoot" Felkley
Join Bigfoot for an easy-going morning hike around Wild Bear's property at Mud Lake Open Space. Breathe fresh morning air, discover blooming flowers, look for signs of wildlife, and spend time with family and friends. The loop trail is approximately 2 miles round-trip on mostly flat terrain. Start your weekend off with a relaxing, educational jaunt through your forest backyard!

Nature Sketching 101: Wonderful Wildflowers
Presented by Susie Mottashed, author and illustrator of the award-winning book, Who Lives In Your Backyard?
Adding wildflower sketches to your journal really brings it to life! This fun class will focus on sketching and nature journaling techniques that will enable you to capture the beauty of the botanical world. Topics include flower anatomy, observation skills, and the use of pen, pencil (our primary sketching tool), colored pencils and watercolor pencils in sketching wildflowers. This class is designed for beginners, but all are welcomed. No prior sketching experience is necessary. Children must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

Materials: Bring an 8.5x11 sketchbook, pens and color and watercolor pencils, brush, container for water, and wildflower field guide. Extra brushes and field guides will be provided if needed.

Join us for Act 2 of a creative dramatics workshop celebrating cycles in nature, including theatre, games, improvisation, live music, singing, dancing, and high energy fun!

Playing with the Wild: Stories About Nature
Presented by Pamela Sherman
Can you really play with an elephant? Can you trust a skunk? Can you learn from a fly? Come hear amazing and TRUE stories of humans in relationship with wild creatures and expand the boundaries of your community. We will gather around the campfire at Mud Lake to share stories, sing songs, and reflect on our close connections to the natural world. Join us for this interactive and fun evening for the whole family.

Playing With the Wild: Earth Theater
Presented by Pamela Sherman
Connect to the earth through interactive theater! All ages are invited to join in this fun-filled evening of storytelling, role playing, and laughter. Gather around the campfire at Mud Lake to experience hilarious tales about our interactions with nature through drama, improvisation, and creative interpretation of story characters. Come to watch or participate in this fun-filled evening for all members of the family.

7th Annual Enchanted Forest
Presented by Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery
Wild Bear Center for Nature Discovery invites families and friends to attend the 7th Annual Enchanted Forest! The event will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Mud Lake Open Space, just north of Nederland. Celebrate nature's wonders with a guided tour through the forest, meet friendly animals, create unique crafts, have your face painted, fill your goodie bag, munch on snacks, relax around the campfire and enjoy musical entertainment! Guided forest tours will be available from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We are looking forward to a great evening of fun, education, and community building.
